It’s difficult to know with certainty what compels someone to take on these kinds of challenges and I’m afraid I don’t have any insight into the “why” I’m heading to San Diego on my bicycle. What I do know is I feel extremely fortunate to believe this trip is achievable. Most of the route will be new to me, starting at Coleman Docks with a ferry ride to Bremerton and a first night outside of Shelton. From there, the route follows along south U.S. 101 to Leggett, California where I will join California State Highway 1 and ride along it as far as I can. On May 22, I will board a northbound Amtrak train and arrive back in Seattle on May 23. Between now and then, my goal is to share brief reports and musings. It’s going to be a blast and I’m ready to pedal!
